music

we are proud at TERROIR to play music exclusively from vinyl records, here’s a little selection of what we are listening to these days.

LIL’ WAYNE

What are the tattoo’s about? Did he really kill 3 peoples before age 3? Did he lost some Homies real young?Anyway it’s real gangster bass all over that record and we love that.

RADIO1730.org PODCAST’S

Sometimes we get lazy and don’t want to flip the record every 10 minutes,so we just play any of the shows from theBest podcasts ever.Period.radio1730.org SUSCRIBE NOW!(and it’s free)

LES NEGRESSES VERTES ”Mlah” 1988

I remember,i was 13 years old when HELNO,the lead singer died of an overdose.I didn’t care much for the Negresse’s music back then. I found the lp 4 or 5 months ago at amoeba, and i wasn’t expecting much…..and i was wrong of course!!Great french pop, rai, gypsy influenced, beautiful violins and accordeons, great words if you can understand any of it,i know i barely can.

DODOS ”Visiter” 2008

SOOO Good!2 guys making alot of very enjoyable noise,I can’t stop listening to it… I mean I really cant I think its driving G nuts but I don’t care I’m gonna put it on right now!

D

MISSION OF BURMA ”Vs” 1982

Yes it is an old record and I’m still into it.Quite possibly one of the most influential American post punk indie bands EVER.I saw them play recently and they had more energy and presence than most guys half their age,not to mention the new records are quite decent and they’ve re-released everything on Matador. If your a fan,go check m out before Roger goes completely deaf…

YEAH YEAH YEAHS ”Is is” ep 2008

Yeah yeah yeah,i wanted to hate them real bad too, damn hipsters, but they just release that very, very good ep and not listenning to it would just not make any sense.99 points GG

PAUL MCCARTNEY/MICHAEL JACKSON ”Say,say,say” 1983

Don’t they look great?and happy too? The good old days.

ANIMAL COLLECTIVE “Water curses” ep 2008

Yes,it’s a bit out there,it’s loud, saturated,it’s folk,it’s experimental and it makes some of my costumers run away(”i’d really like to stay and have some wine, but this noise, that music….it’s horrible!”) but guess what,i love it!

HERCULES AND LOVE AFFAIR st/2008

One of the latest release from DFA(LCD SOUNDSYSTEM,RAPTURE etc…) and as usual,it’s better than the last one.Great disco/house beats, the greatest voice of pop music(Anthony HEGARTY) makes one of the best pop-dance music record of the year.

G.

VAMPIRE WEEKEND st/2008

One of those trendy records that actually is good!somehow in between BEIRUT and the PIXIES….can’t really go wrong with those two; very well recorded indie pop rock, great, great drums, cool synthesizers, every song is pretty much as solid as the next one and i just can’t stop playing it every night!

G.

GALT MACDERMOT “Shapes of rythm” 1966

I’m crazy about almost everything that has been previously sampled and MCDERMOT is one of those guy along the JB’s and KRAFTWERK that has been used, reused and totally abused!this recording has been reissued by egon from stone throw records(madlib, jay dee, lootpack…) who has a lot of other interesting titles on the now-again label. With Bernard PURDIE,Jimmy LEWIS and Napolean ALLEN backing him,Galt MCDERMOT delivers here a classic funky jazz record.

G.

PYLON “gyrate” 1980

No wave music at it’s best!!Pure ATHENS Georgia 1980 ,an undiscovered classic (actually,DFA just re-released the cd) just as good as the ESG’s,LIQUID LIQUID or early SONIC YOUTH.Drums banging hard, electric riffs and loud, well recorded bass,Makes me want to dance behind my bar(not gonna happen).
